Sixth Sunday of Lent – Healing Through Surrender When Love Is Misunderstood

Reflection

It begins with praise. Jesus enters Jerusalem, and the crowds rejoice. Cloaks are laid down. Palms are lifted high.

Voices cry out: “Hosanna!”

Hope fills the air. But within days… everything changes. The same voices grow silent—or turn against Him. Betrayal replaces loyalty. Fear replaces boldness.

Shouts of praise become cries of: “Crucify Him.”

This movement—from praise to pain—is one of the deepest wounds of the heart.

  • When love once felt returned… but now feels distant
  • When someone who once stood beside you now pulls away
  • When what felt secure suddenly feels uncertain

Jesus experiences all of it. He is welcomed—then rejected. Surrounded—then abandoned. Loved—then betrayed. Even His closest friends fall asleep in His agony… and flee in His suffering.

And from the Cross, He cries: “My God, my God, why have you abandoned me?”

In the midst of all this—Jesus does not grasp for control. He does not force understanding. He does not demand loyalty. He does not defend Himself against every accusation. Instead—He surrenders.

“He humbled himself…”

This is where healing often feels the hardest: When you cannot fix what is breaking. When you cannot make someone stay, understand, or respond. When your love is not received the way you hoped.

And yet—like Jesus—You are invited to remain faithful. Not because it is easy. But because God is working through your surrender.

The prophet speaks: “The Lord GOD has given me a well-trained tongue, that I might know how to speak to the weary a word that will rouse them.”

Even in His suffering—Jesus continues to love.

  • In the Garden, He still invites His disciples to watch and pray
  • In betrayal, He still calls Judas “friend”
  • In denial, He looks at Peter with mercy

This is not weakness. This is healing love—steady, anchored, and rooted in the Father. And you are being formed in this same love.

Jesus tells His disciples: “All of you will have your faith shaken…”

And it is. Everything unravels. But this shaking is not the end. It is preparation. Because what is built on emotion, expectation, or control must fall—so that what is rooted in God can rise.

If your marriage feels shaken right now:

  • If trust feels fragile
  • If emotions are unsteady
  • If the future feels unclear

You are not outside of God’s plan. You are walking through Holy Week. Palm Sunday holds two realities at once: Glory… and suffering. Hope… and heartbreak. Love… and rejection.

And Jesus walks through both—without turning away. Your healing will often hold both too. You can love… and feel pain. You can be faithful… and feel unseen. You can trust God… and still have questions.

But if you remain—If you stay with Him—Resurrection is coming.

Reflection Questions

  • Where in my marriage have I experienced a shift from “Hosanna” to hardship?
  • How is God inviting me to remain faithful, even when I feel misunderstood or hurt?
  • Can I trust that God is working through this season, even when everything feels shaken?

Prayer

Lord Jesus,

You were praised and rejected, loved and abandoned—yet You remained faithful. When my heart feels confused or wounded, help me to stay rooted in You. Teach me to surrender what I cannot control, and to trust the Father in the unknown. Give me the grace to love with steadiness, even when it is not returned as I hoped. Walk with me through this Holy Week of my life, and lead me into the healing You have prepared.

Amen.
