Thirty-Third Day of Lent – Healing When God Shakes What Cannot Remain

Reflection

It is finished. Jesus has given everything. His Body is still. The Cross stands in silence. And then—The earth begins to shake. The ground trembles beneath every foot. Walls crack. Stones fall. What once seemed solid is suddenly unstable. Heaven is responding to the Cross. And nothing remains untouched.

After Jesus breathes His last, chaos unfolds. The Temple veil is torn. The ground splits open. The carefully ordered world of the people begins to unravel. Even the dead rise and walk—testifying that something greater than death has taken place. This is not quiet. This is not gentle. This is disruptive, undeniable transformation.

There are moments in your marriage—and in your healing—when God allows things to be shaken.

  • Patterns you thought were stable begin to crack
  • Illusions fall away
  • Hidden wounds rise to the surface
  • Emotions you buried come alive again

And it can feel overwhelming. Even frightening. The veil of the Temple is torn—from top to bottom. What was once hidden is now exposed. The Holy of Holies is no longer concealed. This is a painful but necessary part of healing: God brings into the light what has been hidden.

In your marriage, this may look like:

  • Truths you can no longer ignore
  • Wounds that demand to be acknowledged
  • Patterns that must be confronted

This exposure is not meant to destroy you. It is meant to free you. Because what stays hidden cannot be healed. Not everyone responds the same way. Some are shaken into repentance. Others… harden.

Even in the midst of undeniable signs, some choose control, denial, and pride. This can be one of the most painful realities: You may be awakening, healing, softening—while your spouse resists.

You may feel God moving deeply in your heart—while they remain unchanged. This tension is real. And it can feel incredibly lonely. But hear this clearly: God’s work in you is not dependent on their response.

Yet not all remain hardened. Some hearts break open. The centurion believes. Others are struck with conviction. Many begin to see the truth they once rejected. Even in the chaos— grace is moving.

When God shakes what is broken:

  • Some things fall away
  • Some hearts resist
  • But some… awaken

And healing begins. The earthquake was not the end. It was the beginning of something new. A shift. A breaking open. A preparation for resurrection. If your life—or your marriage—feels shaken right now: Do not be afraid of what is being exposed. Do not lose hope in the disruption.

God is not absent in the shaking. He is revealing, purifying, and preparing. What is built on Him will remain. What is not… will give way—so something truer can rise.

Reflection Questions

  • What in my life or marriage feels like it is being “shaken” right now?
  • Is there something God is bringing into the light that I have been avoiding?
  • How can I remain rooted in Christ, even when things feel unstable around me?

Prayer

Lord Jesus,

When everything feels uncertain and shaken, help me to remain anchored in You. Give me the courage to face what is being revealed, and the grace to allow You to heal what has been hidden. When others resist or do not understand, keep my heart steady and rooted in truth. Let every shaking in my life serve Your purpose of restoration and renewal.

Amen.

Lenten Healing Truth:

God allows shaking not to destroy you—but to reveal, heal, and rebuild what is rooted in Him.
